Young Dancers Initiative offers high school dancers (grades 9-12) the opportunity to train in a professional setting with professionals from around the world. Our two tracks, The Performance Track and The Training Track, offer the flexibility to meet each dancer's needs. Both programs are designed for the serious dancer looking to pursue dance in college, supplying the young artists with networking, teaching, and internship opportunities alongside weekly in-studio training. All dancers in The Company must meet audition requirements.
Our season is divided into three segments:
Segment 1 | YDI kicks off the season in August with a JRD intensive that is required of ALL company dancers. This intensive is followed by YDI @ BDF, which is a weeklong residency and performance opportunity to work with a new choreographer and local professional dancers as well as train at an international dance festival (audition required for those not already in the performance track). The month concludes with a weeklong creative residency with a renowned choreographer who will set an original 15-20-minute work to be performed in December (The Performance Track only).
Segment 2 | From September through December, dancers take weekly class (both tracks) and prepare for an original concert in December (performance track only). ALL dancers begin mentoring sessions to gain clarity and direction on specific goals and paths. Company members receive guidance on processing decisions, setting a game plan, and exploring opportunities that point toward a fulfilling future.
Segment 3 | From January through June, YDI dancers have the option to participate in monthly specialty workshops with industry professionals (both tracks). We take the month of July off to provide space for our dancers to attend professional intensives around the country.
