Kathy King is a life-long dance artist, spending time living and training in Memphis, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Detroit. She is the founder/director of the international summer dance event the Brighton Dance Festival (2010-present). Along with teaching full time at Michelle's Academy of Dance & Performing Arts Center in Brighton, MI, Kathy is also a mentor, coach and freelance educator nationwide. In 2019, Kathy stepped in as Executive Director to the Artists in Training organization (Los Angeles) to work with founder Robert Schultz on rebranding and relaunching the 20-year-old company. Most recently she served as the head coach of the Cleary University Dance Team (2016-2020), and as guest artist and rehearsal director at Eastern Michigan University's School of Music & Dance (2011-2019). Each summer, Kathy travels nationwide as a professional dance educator, teaching master classes and seminars to students of all ages. In 2006, she founded the professional non-profit company Michigan Dance Project, and was named as a Crain's Detroit Business 20 in their 20s in 2013. She received a Special Tribute honor from the State of Michigan in 2019 for her dedication to dance education through her work with Brighton Dance Festival. In addition to teaching dance, Kathy serves or has served on several non-profit boards, including Jodie Randolph Dance, the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts, and the Arthur Secunda Museum at Cleary University, and has a fierce passion for empowering others with the confidence and mindset to achieve their greatness.
