I'M NEW TO YDI, WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
|
Young Dancers Initiative is a drop-in/supplemental dance experience for middle school and high school dancers who want more dance! It is a space for young movers to connect with new peers and professionals in the dance community. An audition is required to join The Company, but NO AUDITION is necessary to enjoy our workshops and open classes!

WHEN AND WHERE IS CLASS?
|
Our Ann Arbor location holds class at 3777 Plaza Dr. Ann Arbor, MI 48108. The advanced open class is Sunday, 1p - 3p. The intermediate open class is Sunday, 3p - 4:30p.
Our Kalamazoo locations holds class at 359 S Kalamazoo Mall #204 Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Advanced open class is Saturday, 12p - 1:30p. Intermediate open class is Saturday, 10:30a - 11:30a. |
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO TAKE CLASS?

13+ for our advanced classes, and 11+ for our intermediate classes.

DO I HAVE TO BE A COMPANY MEMBER TO TAKE CLASS?
|
Nope! We welcome anyone who meets the age requirements to take class.
|
HOW DO I SIGN-UP FOR CLASS?
|
Head to our open class page here, click ‘show more’ to expand the class description of the class you would like to take, click sign-up!

IF I REGISTER FOR CLASS AND AM UNABLE TO ATTEND, CAN I GET A REFUND?
|
We do not offer refunds, but if you send us an email at info@youngdancersinitiative.org, we will be sure to credit your account, in which you will be able to use that credit toward your next class.

WHERE CAN I PARK WHILE ATTENDING DROP-IN CLASSES?
|
For those attending class in Ann Arbor, free parking is available right out front of the studio (Ann Arbor Dance Classics).
For those attending class in Kalamazoo, street parking is available near the studio (The Epic Center) or at the Epic Center Parking Ramp (about $5 for 1.5-2 hours). |
DO YOU OFFER ANY OTHER DANCE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES ASIDE FROM CLASS?

YDI offers webinars, online feedback, Kids One-Day Intensive, JRD One-Day Intensives, Groundwork, the Company, and specialty workshops (coming soon!)

DOES THE COMPANY COMPETE?
|
The Company does not compete. Our main focus is personal growth and dance education in a non-competitive atmosphere where young dancers can build a community! Our Company members do perform in an annual concert and travel to various performances in Michigan.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE COMPANY PERFORMANCE TRACK AND THE COMPANY TRAINING TRACK?
|
In its simplest form, the Performance Track is for dancers who want more opportunities to perform, and the Training Track is for the dancers who want more class and other dance education opportunities. A breakdown of each track can be found on our company page here.

ARE THERE ANY REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PART OF THE COMPANY?
|
Because we are a supplemental program, there are a few requirements for Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo Company members. YDI requires company members to be enrolled in technique classes at their home dance studio.

HOW IS YDI INVOLVED WITH MY COMMUNITY?
|
YDI provides creative movement workshops and performs at local nursing homes! Our Kalamazoo location is currently a partner with the Boys and Girls Club of Kalamazoo, where they offer weekly contemporary/modern classes to its members. If you are interested in YDI coming to you for creative movement workshops or performances, please contact us at info@youngdancersinitiative.org.
